Basic TOEFL testing includes following four sections:
Reading: This section assesses how well you can understand the reading material provided. It has 10 questions from three or four different passages. Timing is different for Ibt and Essential TOEFL tests.
Listening: This section is a measure of a speaker's ability to grasp conversations in English. It focuses on listening for:
1- Basic perception
2- Interpretation of the speaker's degree of certainty and attitude
3- Connecting facts and information
Speaking: The TOEFL Speaking section evaluates speaking ability in real-life scenarios. The questions/tasks represent situations one might encounter in daily life. There are two types of questions , ones where the idea is expressed by the speaker and the others which require a combination of other skills like listening and reading to completely express an idea.
Writing: The TOEFL Writing section measures ability to write and present an idea in English in a clear and well-organized way. In this section also there are two types of questions. Ones require reading or listening to a paragraph and writing a response. The other is an essay using personal experience or response to a given topic.
The score is calibrated using a combination of AI and certified human raters. Raw scores are converted to a scaled number from 0-30 for each section, making a total of 120.
